Eye Gaze Technology for Emergent Communicators (Florida) Virtual

Description

Participants will explore the functional aspects of eye tracking technology and best practices for getting started. A variety of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) language tools for the emergent communicator who uses eye gaze access will be considered. In addition, communication partner strategies to support successful participation and interaction will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify two AAC language options or communication page sets that can be used with eye tracking technology
  • State two communication partner strategies for successful communication using gaze interaction technology
  • Identify three key technical features that make eye tracking technology successful for emergent communicators

Amanda Hobar
Amanda is an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist who has evaluated and treated individuals across the lifespan with a wide variety of disorders. Amanda graduated from UCLA with a B.S in Communication Studies. After graduating she provided training to nonprofits and multinational corporations. She decided to attend graduate school after a family member had aphasia. Amanda earned a M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and has implemented low-tech and high-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solutions with pediatric and adult populations while working in private practice, K-12 education, and outpatient settings. Prior to joining Tobii Dynavox, Amanda served as the Director of Learning and Development at a private clinic. Amanda is dedicated to evidence-based practice and has contributed to published research and presented on the topics of AAC, dementia, aphasia and multicultural issues in speech-language pathology.
