Solutions for Children with Complex Comm Needs (El Cajon CA) Private

Description

Participants will learn about a variety of successful supports for children with complex communication needs. AAC solutions that can positively impact engagement, literacy, and growth will be discussed. Participants will engage in hands-on stations to complete real-world activities and leave the session with Tobii Dynavox AAC resources and practical tips.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to: 

• Describe one AAC solution that can positively impact engagement, literacy and/or communication for a child with complex communication needs
• Identify two communication outcomes for a child using AAC when provided with the appropriate communication tools
• Discuss how a software solution can address the needs of a child with complex communication needs

Participants are expected to be present for the entire session. Individuals who are not present for the full program will not be recommended for ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided.

Emily Conklin
Emily has been a consultant with Tobii Dynavox since August 2015. She completed undergraduate and graduate work in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Emily sat on the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Executive Board as the representative for undergraduate and graduate students in MO, LA, AR, and MS. She also served as UCM's NSSLHA Chapter President and Graduate Assistant for the Communication Disorders Department. Furthermore, Emily worked as an ABA therapist for over two years.
