Solutions for Children with Complex Communication Needs (Private)

Description

Course Description: Participants will gain understanding of the characteristics and supports needed for children with complex communication needs and gain exposure to the device and software features as well as educational supports from Tobii Dynavox. Participants will be given the opportunity to participate in interactive stations to complete hands-on activities with Tobii Dynavox products to facilitate learning, ask questions in the moment, and apply knowledge in practical ways. Participants will leave the session with an awareness of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) options as well as resources and practical tips that can be used immediately following the training!

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the three pillars of content development that are the foundation of Tobii Dynavox communication software solutions.
  • Identify two complex communication and learning outcomes when the AAC user is provided the appropriate communication and learning tools.
  • Identify the steps needed to customize content within one of the Tobii Dynavox communication software solutions.

Program Completion Requirements:  Participants are expected to be present for the entire program.  Individuals who are not present for the full program will not be recommended for CMH.  No partial credit will be provided.

Loyal has prior experience as an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluator and trainer serving clients of the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center in Los Angeles and the Assistive Technology Exchange Center (ATEC) in Orange County, California. As a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), Loyal served children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, ALS, Traumatic Brain Injury, spinal cord injury, and other medically complex needs focusing on communication and computer access. Loyal’s passion for his clients and AAC technology led him to the Learning Services Team at Tobii Dynavox where he currently supports internal and external customer training and implementation needs as a Learning Consultant.
