Description In this session, we will review a core word strategy approach supporting both communication and literacy development for individuals with complex communication needs. Based on best practices, participants will review research and strategies to support core vocabulary for communication as well as core word lesson plans to support literacy development. Additionally, we will focus on the emergent communicator and how AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) supports and strategies help realize their communication potential. We will demonstrate how the Snap + Core First communication software can target core vocabulary in communication activities across learning environments for all communication ability levels.

Lindsey Frohn
Lindsey Frohn is a speech-language pathologist experienced in a rehabilitation setting working with a wide variety of diagnoses and disorders including TBI, stroke, Down syndrome, and autism. Lindsey developed a passion for AAC early in her career to increase her patients’ abilities to communicate successfully. She is a member of the Tobii Dynavox Learning Team where she develops and conducts trainings, creates implementation resources, and presents at conferences about AAC topics.
