Neurodiversity-Affirming Support for Autistic AAC Users
Description This course, Neurodiversity-Affirming Support for Autistic AAC Users, will explore key characteristics of autism that may affect AAC use. Participants will learn about communication differences, including multimodal communication and part-time AAC use, regulation needs, and motor planning differences. The course will help professionals and caregivers provide supportive, individualized AAC strategies that respect and empower autistic communicators. Through discussion and practical insights, attendees will gain practical tips and tools to foster meaningful communication and connection for autistic AAC users. Upon successful completion, participants will be able to: Describe three autistic characteristics that may affect AAC use. Identify two neurodiversity-affirming strategies to support full-time and part-time AAC users. Apply individualized, strengths-based approaches to enhance AAC access and effectiveness for autistic communicators. We look forward to learning with you in our live virtual session.
