How to create a Youtube button for TD Snap

Overview

TD Snap version 1.36 or later allows you to create buttons that play YouTube videos directly from within a communication page. This feature can be used to launch educational videos, songs, routines, or other video content from a custom button.


Before You Begin

Before creating a YouTube button, make sure that:

  • You are using TD Snap version 1.36 or later.
  • You have the URL for the YouTube video you want to play.
  • If you are using an open device, you can access YouTube directly from a web browser.
  • If you are using a closed device, use another computer to create and program the button. You can use the TD Snap app without speaking capabilities for programming purposes.

Copy the YouTube Video URL

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Navigate to the YouTube video you want to add.
  3. Copy the video URL from the browser's address bar.

Create a YouTube Button in TD Snap

  1. Open TD Snap.
  2. Navigate to the page where you want to add the new button.
  3. Enter Edit Mode by selecting the gear or pencil icon.
  4. Select the button you want to edit.
  5. Select Actions.
  6. Delete the existing Speak or Insert Message action if one exists.
  7. Select Add Action.
  8. Search for YouTube.
  9. Select Play YouTube Video.

Configure the Video

  1. Paste the YouTube video URL into the URL field.
  2. Choose what happens when the video finishes playing:
    • Close
    • Play Next
    • Do Nothing
  3. Optionally configure:
    • Start Time to begin playback at a specific point in the video.
    • Stop Time to end playback at a specific point in the video.

Save the Button

  1. Select Done to save your changes and exit the menu.

The button is now configured to play the selected YouTube video.

Tips

  • Use Start Time and Stop Time to play only the portion of a video that is relevant to the user.
  • Consider creating dedicated pages for favorite songs, routines, educational content, or reinforcement videos.
  • Verify that the device has internet access before attempting to play YouTube content.

Troubleshooting

If the video does not play:

  • Verify that the YouTube URL was copied correctly.
  • Confirm that the device has an active internet connection.
  • Ensure the selected video is publicly available on YouTube.
  • Verify that TD Snap is running version 1.36 or later.
