Description Join us as we explore evidence-based approaches for supporting both communication and literacy development for children with complex communication needs. We will discuss Snap Core First communication software and associated Tobii Dynavox literacy tools to support symbol-based communicators and their communication partners. We will target specific strategies that can positively impact engagement, literacy, and growth. Following the course, you will have an opportunity to visit our AAC stations for hands-on application. Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to: · Discuss how AAC impacts language development, literacy and social skills · Identify the five key communication tools in a robust AAC solution · Identify how Snap Core First supports growth, engagement and literacy · Discuss three key implementation strategies to support AAC users · Identify three steps for supporting shared reading to increase literacy Check-in begins at 8:00 am Complimentary lunch will be provided to all attendees At the completion of the training, there will be an optional hands-on session from 4:00 - 5:00 Location: UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center Junior Ball Room and Hamilton Foyer for registration 50 Warren Street Lowell. Lisa Geary
Lisa M. Geary, M.S., CCC-SLP has over 25 years’ experience in speech-language therapy, teaching, and supervision. She previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor in a university setting where she taught clinical and didactic courses including the graduate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) class. Lisa also worked for many years in the public school, private practice, and outpatient rehabilitation settings. Lisa is currently a member of the Tobii Dynavox Learning Team where she develops and conducts trainings for professionals and customers.
