TD Devices and Windows Reset Best Practices

This document will outline the best practices for running a Windows Reset on any TD Device type with Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro. It is important to remember that Windows does make changes to settings and can add additional features to the Reset. This document should be updated when changes occur that could affect the Reset process.
There are different options available for Resets. There is not one recommended specific way to perform a Reset, however all Resets MUST be performed be a Local Reinstall. The following steps below will outline how to perform a Windows Reset and explain in further detail what options can be used.
Perform Windows Reset (Windows 10):
  1. Connect the charger to the device.
  2. Select the Start Menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Update & Security.
  5. Select Recovery on the left side of the menu.

  1. Under the Reset this PC header, select Get started.
  2. Once the Reset this PC menu opens, two options will be available. Either option can be chosen depending on the needs of the user. Selecting Keep my files will save files such as Documents, Pictures, and other personal files. Selecting Remove everything will remove all personal files. Select the appropriate option for the needs of the user.

  1. When prompted to select how you would like to reinstall Windows, select Local Reinstall.

When prompted for Additional Settings, if the device is currently connected to the Internet, the option to Download Windows can be selected to avoid the need to run Windows Updates after resetting the device. If this option is NOT selected, the reset will use the Windows image from the local recovery drive. Depending on when the device was originally deployed, the recovery image could require several Windows Updates after the reset has been completed. To do this, select Change Settings.

  1.  Under the option for “Download Windows?”, toggle to Yes. Then select Confirm.

  1. If an internet connection is not available, or it is believed that a Windows Update may have caused the current problems that have led to the decision to perform the Reset, select Next. If you selected to download Windows, select Next.

  1. The Reset should begin, and the device should automatically restart to reinstall Windows. The device will restart several times while performing the Reset.
  2. If the device was shipped as BTO,Windows should automatically run the OOBE Process, and the TD Configuration Manager should open once the reset has finished. If the device was shipped as Zero-Touch, the user will need to follow the steps through the Windows OOBE Process and once the device restarts after the OOBE Process, the TD Configuration Manager should open.
  3. With the Configuration Manager open, select Get Started.

  1. The Product Key should be saved and already populated in the field. Select Next.

  1. Select Accept to the Device Warning Messages.

  1. For the Device setup options, if the device was shipped as BTO, select the check-box for Log into Windows Automatically (less secure). Close the onscreen keyboard and leave the password field blank since that is the default for BTO devices.

  1. If the device was shipped as Zero-Touch, select the appropriate option for the user. If selecting to Log into Windows automatically (less secure), the password for the Windows User Account must be entered.

  1. Select Next.
  2. The Configuration Manager will run. Once completed, the device will automatically restart and the Reset process will be completed.
  3. Depending on when the device was originally imaged, updates for Tobii Dynavox Applications and other Windows Updates may need to be completed.



Perform Windows Reset (Windows 11):
  1. Connect the charger to the device.
  2. Select the Start Menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. By default, the System options will be listed. Scroll down in the list.
  5. Select Recovery.
  1. Under the Recovery options header, select Reset PC.
  2. Once the Reset this PC menu opens, two options will be available. Either option can be chosen depending on the needs of the user. Selecting Keep my files will save files such as Documents, Pictures, and other personal files. Selecting Remove everything will remove all personal files. Select the appropriate option for the needs of the user.
